From 2015 – 2023, I had the honor of telling the stories behind the digital experiences powered by WP Engine, a Word Press-focused managed web hosting company based in Austin, TX with offices across the globe.
In 2015, I became the company’s first staff videographer, producing interviews with notable folks at industry events and augmenting WP Engine’s social media campaigns and recruitment efforts. My previous experience as a radio show producer (and a halfway decent radio voice) earned me hosting duties for WP Engine’s webinar series. At SXSW 2018, I helped create and launch “Velocitize Talks,” an interview format YouTube show highlighting the intersection between open source technology and enterprise-level business. I would go on to shoot, edit, and produce hundreds of episodes of Velocitize Talks recorded across the world.
With the onset of the global pandemic, I took the lead on video production for all of WP Engine’s in-person and live-streaming events, including the company’s annual “summits” and developer-focused “Decode” events. Naturally, I also made sure that these events got video-based polish they deserved, orchestrating on-stage video transitions, behind the scenes social content, interviews, promotional videos, and dynamic DJ sets to keep attendees entertained after panels. Between events, I produced customer-facing videos including advertisements and product tutorials to support product marketing efforts. Somewhere along the way, I even produced a music video.
Unequivocally the best work I did at WP Engine, was helping others do their best work as a Lead Digital Marketing Content Producer managing WP Engine’s videography team. As part of the greater Creative Services Team (which served as WP Engine’s internal design agency for all intents and purposes) the video team took on the biggest, in-house produced proecjts in WP Engine history, including a full-production ad campaign for WP Engine’s “Growth Suite” client management product, numerous feature overview videos, and customer testimonials. I also took time to mentor up-and-coming videographers from WP Engine’s customer experience department.
